Coronavirus is a new name for us and if I am not wrong, we all heard this name in December 2019 and in January 2020, it is like a threat around the World. Several cases of Pneumonia have been reported in Wuhan City, Hubei Province of China and the virus did not match any other known virus. This concern was raised because it looked like a new virus. After a week or two, it was confirmed that the new virus is a Coronavirus which is a family of viruses that include the common cold.
What is Coronavirus & Cause of Coronavirus?
Coronavirus is a type of virus that typically affect the respiratory tract. It’s including humans, mammals, and even birds. They are associated with the common cold, pneumonia, and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS). In humans, the virus causes respiratory infections, in cows and pigs they may cause diarrhea, while in chickens it can cause an upper respiratory disease. There are no vaccines or antiviral drugs that are approved for prevention or treatment.

Coronaviruses originate in animals and are usually not transmissible to humans. But occasionally a coronavirus mutates and can pass from animals to humans and then from human to human. It spread the same way other cold-causing viruses do: through infected people coughing and sneezing, by touching an infected person’s hands or face, or by touching things such as doorknobs that infected people have touched. The name for this kind of virus comes from the crown-like spikes it has on its surface — “corona” is Latin for “crown.”
The first known cases detected in December 2019 at the animal market in the Chinese city of Wuhan and are believed to have come from contact with live animals that were infected. The market has since been closed. However, a growing number of patients reportedly have not had exposure to animal markets, indicating person-to-person spread is occurring. At this time, it’s unclear how easily or sustainably this virus is spreading between people.
By late January 2020, more than 3000 cases have been confirmed and 107 people died in China only. Confirmed cases have also been reported in Thailand, South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Macau, Hong Kong, the United States, Singapore, Vietnam, France, Nepal, Australia, and Malaysia. A notification has been sent to all the airports around the world about this virus and specially those who are coming from China, they have to undergo medical screening and a number of countries have put out travel advisories warning against travel to Wuhan and Hubei province in China. The World Health Organization has been working with Chinese authorities to control the problems.
